The Little Red Hen – Story For Level 1

Once upon a time in a cozy little farm, there lived a little red hen. She was a hardworking and diligent hen who loved to tend to her garden and take care of her tiny cottage. The little red hen had three friends on the farm: a lazy dog, a sleepy cat, and a forgetful mouse.

One sunny morning, the little red hen found some seeds scattered in her garden. She clucked and called her friends, “Who will help me plant these seeds in my garden?

The lazy dog yawned and said, “Not I, I’m too tired to help.

The sleepy cat stretched and said, “Not I, I need my beauty sleep.

The forgetful mouse scratched its head and said, “Not I, I have to find my cheese.

Undeterred, the little red hen decided to do all the work herself. She carefully planted the seeds, watered them, and watched them grow day by day. As the days turned into weeks, the plants grew tall and strong, bearing big golden wheat stalks.

The little red hen called her friends again, “Who will help me harvest the wheat?

The lazy dog grumbled, “Not I, I’m too lazy to work.

The sleepy cat mumbled, “Not I, I need my nap.”

The forgetful mouse shrugged, “Not I, I’ve forgotten how to harvest.

So, the little red hen decided to harvest the wheat all by herself. She worked hard under the hot sun, cutting the wheat with her beak, tying them into bundles, and stacking them neatly.

When the wheat was ready, the little red hen called her friends one last time, “Who will help me take this wheat to the mill to make flour?

The lazy dog sighed, “Not I, I’m too lazy to carry it.”

The sleepy cat yawned, “Not I, I need my beauty rest.

The forgetful mouse scratched its head and said, “Not I, I forgot where the mill is.

Once again, the little red hen decided to do it all by herself. She carried the heavy wheat to the mill, where it was ground into fine flour. With the flour, she baked a delicious loaf of bread.

When the bread was ready, the little red hen called her friends one last time, “Who will help me eat this bread?

This time, the lazy dog, the sleepy cat, and the forgetful mouse eagerly exclaimed, “I will!”

But the little red hen shook her head and said, “No, you won’t. I asked for help when I needed it, and you refused. Now, I will enjoy the bread all by myself.

And so, the little red hen enjoyed the fruits of her hard work, knowing that diligence and persistence had paid off. Her friends learned a valuable lesson that day, that it’s important to lend a helping hand when needed, or they might miss out on the rewards of their efforts. And from that day on, they were always willing to work together and share in the work on the farm.
